Wakefield (MA) Farmers Market

Last week the annual Wakefield Farmers Market started.  Meg, KayCee, Jojo and I were very excited to have our Saturday morning ritual of walking down to the market, picking up our fresh, local produce and other products, including breads, salsas and hummus’.

Even a rainy, cloudy start to the day last week could not keep us away.  In week one we picked up a few vegetables, but also took advantage of the vendors offering maple syrup and maple barbecue sauce.  I am looking forward to trying to sauce as a marinade on some fish (maybe a nice maple salmon) and vegetables.

Today we headed down and were happy to see Flats Mentor Farms making their season debut.  This farm carries the largest scallions you have ever seen, as well as a variety of other greens.  We got some mixed lettuces for salads this week, some chard which I plan to use to makes some wraps, and the most fragrant mint (mojitos anyone?).

Throughout the market season I will try to keep you up to date with what is fresh and what we are using the ingredients to make.  Hopefully the fresh produce will inspire me to continue to be creative in the kitchen.
